Walk and Roll with Tai Chi Balance

Cogent footwear was inspired by the ancient, balanced movements of Tai Chi. In conjunction with their patented Double Rocker Sole technology, their shoes are different and unique from any other shoe in the market.

Cogent has created a therapeutic shoe which improves gait and posture, provides balance with every step while increasing flexibility and strengthening core muscles. Cogent wants people to walk properly and naturally. This is achieved in part through the unique design of their sole, which shifts the balance of our body to a neutral position allowing us to stand more upright in a perfectly balanced posture and helping you find your body's natural "Center Point", or "Dan Tien" in Tai Chi terms (the area just below the naval).

Every movement flows from this posture naturally and evenly, enabling you to properly utilize the internal energy within us all. From the soft heel strike to mid-stance and to final toe-off, the entire stride is smooth and correctly guided from the outer part of the heel to the inner toe, resulting in even weight distribution and less stress on bones, joints and other parts of the body. Other movements we make also flow through this "Center Point", creating a natural overall healing and strengthening process within the body.

Cogent footwear trains your body to stand straight, be in balance, and walk properly in the most efficient manner.

What is Tai Chi? Meditation in Motion

Tai Chi dates back to the early 1800's and was promoted as a martial arts therapy for the purpose of health and longevity. Traditional Tai Chi training teaches awareness of one's own balance and what affects it. Through the "Dan Tien" (Center Point), each movement flows into the next without pausing and can be described as "Meditation in Motion." The practice of Tai Chi is beneficial to health and it is also a subtle, sophisticated and scientific method of self-defense.

Tai Chi enables us to develop a healthy body as well as an alert mind. It is a system of exercise suitable for people of all ages. Tai Chi offers a great exercise for the body's muscles and joints in conjunction with stable and balanced movements as well as deep regulated breathing. The performance creates a tranquil state of mind through concentration on the movements. As our muscles move when practicing Tai Chi, they exert pressure on our veins, forcing our blood to flow towards the heart, improving our circulation. In the long term, Tai Chi stimulates the central nervous system, which increases the well-being of all the organs of the body and decreases mental and physical stress.

How does it work?

Based on Double-Rocker Sole technology, Cogent footwear improves posture and gait through a Neutral-Balancing Mechanism (NBM) and two Critical Pivot Points which "centers" the body and distributes weight evenly throughout the stride. This leads to correct posture and good balance using core muscles and the right amount of force enabling proper "Tai Chi Balanced Walking" habits.
